         Mrs. Hartzell died Tuesday in the Marengo Hospital at Linden.
         Survivors include his wife; a son, Roy D. Hartzell Jr. of Linden; a daughter, Mrs. Marcia Janes of Demopolis, and a brother, Mahlon Hartzell of Bay City, Mich.
  • The following appeared in a local newspaper: Graveside services were conducted Thursday, Nov.17, 1966 at 3:00 p.m. in the Old Linden Cemetery by the Rev. Eugene Cadell, pastor of the Linden Methodist Church, for Roy Denison Hartzell, 75, of Linden, who died in the Marengo Hospital, Linden, Ala. on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 15, after a long illness of a malignancy.
         Pall bearers were W.C. Pritchett, Thomas H. Boggs Sr., Dr. G.N. Williams, Elmer B. Glass, Val T. Barley, Nathan M. Levy and W.W. Scott.
         Cook and Spigener Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
         Mr. Hartzell was a member of the Linden Methodist Church and was a veteran of Word War I. He was born in Ashton, Ill., Oct. 3, [sic] 1891, the son of William Douglas and Mary Louise Messer Hartzell.
         While in camp in Montgomery in 1918 he met Miss Hermione Cuninghame of Linden, whom he married. After his discharge from the Army he came to Linden where he has made his home for the past forty-one years, being engaged in the automobile business and later in the raising of cattle and operation of a cotton gin.
         He was active in community affairs and organizations for the promotion of better business and civic affairs. He was highly regarded by those who knew him as a sound and reliable citizen, a good neighbor and loyal friend.
         He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hermione Cuninghame Hartzell of Linden; a son, Roy D. Hartzell, Jr. of Linden; a daughter, Mrs. Tony L. Janes of Demopolis; a brother, Mahlon Hartzell of Bay City, Mich; and five grandchildren.
