Jonas Johnson Hair

- Jonas Johnson Hair was born on 4 January 1866 in Grimes County, Texas.
- He married Mary Brown on 23 October 1891 in Grimes County, Texas.
- The following appeared on 19 July 1954 in the Big Spring Daily Herald: Jonas Johnson Hair, retired banker and resident of Big Spring for 56 years, died in a hospital here at 7 a.m. Monday.
Mr. Hair had been in failing health for a number of years and since last summer he had been confined to his bed at home, 603 Runnels. Prior to that he had suffered two serious falls which ha incapacitated him. Saturday his condition worsened and he was taken to a hospital.
Services will be held at the Nalley Chapel at 4 p.m. Tuesday with burial in the City Cemetery. Dr. Jordan Grooms, Pastor of the First Methodist Church, is to officiate.
Mr. Hair was reared in Anderson, Texas and came to Big Spring in 1898. He had singled out this city from three possiblt West Texas points as a place to settle. The city numbered around 500 inhabitants and offered prospects for a mercantile establishment. Soon after coming here, however, he and other residents felt that one bank was not enough for the city so he helped organize the West Texas National Bank. He became part of the management and continued in that post until it merged with the First National in 1933. He retired after that time.
Two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Hair came to a rare celebration -- that of 60 years of happy wedded life. They agreed that it was a case of love at first sight when they met in their home town. The slipped off for a quiet marriage in a Methodist parsonage some 10 miles away on Oct. 21, 1891. Friends always said they were about the most devoted couple they had ever known.
Surviving Mr. Hair are Mrs. Hair; three sons, J. J. Hair Jr., Houston, G. D. Hair, La Porte; M. B. Hair, Balmorhea.
He leaves three sisters, Mrs. Laura E. Haynie, Lampasas, Mrs. O. B. Dotson, Lampasas; Mrs. Tennie McKinnons, San Diego, Calif; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. - Jonas Johnson Hair died on 19 July 1954 at age 88.
- His wife Mary Brown became a widow at his death.
