         Mrs. Mitchell was born Jan. 11, 1915, the fourth child of the late Dr. and Mrs. John Lucious Garrard's eight children. She was a 1934 graduate of Rome "Hilltoppers" High-school and a 1936 graduate of Draughtons School of Commerce, Atlanta. She was married on March 24, 1935, to Russell Flewellen "Tuck" Mitchell of Glennville, Ala. and they had three children: Martin Hardin Mitchell, who preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1997; Toamas Garrard Mitchell, who preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2001; and Georgia Mitchell Thompson.
         Mrs. Mitchell served as a foster grandparent from 1989 to 1997 at the Adolescent Specialty Treatment Unit for young men at Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital. On three separate occasions during her time at Northwest Georgia, she was elected as "Foster Grandparent of the Year." Mrs. Mitchelll will always be remembered for her flair for fashion as well as her love of writing poems, creating photo albums and documenting her family history.
         Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
         She is survived by her daughter, Georgia Mitchell Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz., two sisters, Mrs. Claude S. Lineberry of Rome, Mrs. Mary Ann Buchanan of Shelbyville, Tenn; one brother, Robert L. Garrard; five grandchildren, Mary Hardin Thornton of Rome, Kimberly Mitchell of Brooklyn, N.Y., David Mitchell of Atlanta, Matthew Mitchell of Sarasota, Fla., Jennifer Lee Thompson of Prescott, Ariz; and many loving nieces and nephews.
