  • The following appeared on 18 January 2011 in the Houston Chronicle: James Robert "'Jim" Fields was born in Humble, Texas on November 3, 1932 and passed away peacefully in his home in Humble, Texas on January 15, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Bettie, four sons, three daughters-in-law, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife and high school sweetheart, Betty Joyce Fields, by his brother, Bun "Lee" Fields, and by his parents, Robert "Lee" and Ida Fields.
         Jim graduated from Humble High School in 1950 and from the University of Houston in 1954. He was then drafted into the U. S. Army and served at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He worked for Shell Chemical Company for 36 years until his retirement in 1994.
         Jim was a 32-degree Mason, a past master of the Humble Masonic Lodge #979 and was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Humble, at First Baptist Church of Mt. Healthy, Ohio and at Forest Cove Baptist Church. His family and friends will remember him for his kindness, loyalty, generosity, sharp wit and gracious personality.
         Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18th, at Rosewood Funeral Home at 2602 S. Houston Avenue in Humble. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19th, at the funeral home's chapel. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
