  • The following appeared in a local newspaper: Funeral services for Frank Champion Hill, 76, of the Old Waverly Community will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 29, 1989 in the Waverly Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Waverly Cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic Locge #459. Metcalf Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hill, a descendant of an early pioneer family, was born August 19, 1193 in Old Waverly, and passed away November 27, 1898 in the Methodist Hospital in Houston. He was an honor graduate of the Willis High School and attended Sam Houston State University. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Hill served as a radio-gunner with the 13th Air Force in the Pacific; and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, Five Oak Leaf Clusters and a Presidential Citation for Heroism and Meritorious Service. Mr. Hill's portrait and war records are in the Archives of the Texas Hall of Fame. Mr. Hill continued to serve his country after war-time, as a County Veteran Service Officer in San Jacinto and Walker counties, the Military Draft Board, and The American Legion for fifty years. He was a member of the San Jacinto Historical Society and the Masonic Lodge #459 AF&AM, John Sims Chapter, where he was awarded a 50-year pin. Mr. Hill attended the Waverly Presbyterian Church, and served as Superintendent of Sunday School; he was also a decon and an elder. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife, Rebbie W. Hill. Survivors: daughter; Patricia Lewers Weaver and husband, Dr. Lloy H. of Old Waverly; son: Frank Scott Hill and Wife, Karen D., of The Woodlands; sister: Miriam Hill Smith of Conroe; brother: Max Elliott Hill of Old Waverly; and two grandchildren: David Ross Roberts and Madalyn Leigh Weaver. The Masonic Lodge #549 AF&AM will serve as pallbearers.
