  • The following appeared on 2 July 1904 in The Montgomery Advertiser: Edward Brett Randolph, an aged and life-long citizen of Montgomery, died yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his residence, 401 Mildred Street.
         He had been ill for several weeks, and his demise was not unexpected.
         The deceased was born in Montgomery, March 4, 1832 [sic], and was the son of Benjamin F. Randolph and his wife nee Miss Anna Page Corbin. In 1853 [sic] he was graduated from the Law Department of the University of Alabama, having previously taken an academic course.
         In 1858 Mr. Randolph married Miss Corinne Albert Pickett, daughter of Alabama's historian.
         At the outbreak of the war Mr. Randolph enlisted in Semple's Battery and was transferred to the 46th Alabama Regiment, where he rose to the rank of Captain. At the close of the war he engaged in planting in Montgomery County.
         He was twice married, his second wife being Miss May Amanda Sayre, by whom he is survived.
         Mr. Randolph leaves two daughters, Miss Carolyn Randolph and Miss Lucy Randolph, and a brother, Judge Francis C. Randolph. He had a large family connection.
         The deceased was scholarly and affable. A series of articles published by him in The Philadelphia North American on the seige of Vicksburg attracted wide attention.
         The funeral services will take place from the residence at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Rev. Stewart McQueen wil officiate.
