  • Hugh Dawson Cook was born on 10 December 1886 in Montgomery County, Alabama. Also in the household was a young Norwegian-born housemaid.
  • George William Cook appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1900 in Montgomery, Alabama, at 315 Madison Avenue enumerated at the same address as Virginia Gordon Abercrombie and her grandchildren.. Other members of the household included Hugh Dawson Cook. The record identifies George as a widower.
  • The following appeared on 28 March 1915 in The Montgomery Advertiser: Mr. Hugh D. Cook, a Montgomery raised boy, has recently been elected President of the Western Accident and Indemnity Company of Helena, Montana. His fellow officers of the company include a former Attorney General of Montana and a former Secretary of State of Montana, as well as a number of the leading bankers and financiers of that State. This company is the first bonding company ever organized in Montana. Already the company, in the first few weeks of business operation, has done nearly two million dollars worth of business.
         Mr. Cook is only 27 years of age, but he has made an acknowledged success in the financial circles of the West. The company of which he has just been elected to the presidency, he organized and he sold all of the stock of the organization. He is a son of Mr. George Cook of Montgomery. He left Montgomery ten years ago and has since lived in the West.

  • He was employed as manager of an insurance company, according to the 1920 census.
  • The following appeared on 8 July 1920 in The Anaconda Standard: (Helena, July 8) Hugh D. Cook of Helena, president of the Western Accident and Indemnity company of Helena, announced today that the company had been consolidated with the Fidelity and Deposit company of Baltimore, Md.
         Mr. Cook becomes resident vice president of the latter concern, with headquarters here.
