  • The following appeared in the Hamilton Literary Magazine: Mrs. Cornelia Catlin Goldthwaite, daughter of the late Professor Marcus Catlin, '27, and Philina Hunt Dean, died at her home in Utica, N. Y., November 17, 1919. Mrs. Goldthwaite was born on College Hill, October 21, 1841, one of a family of nine children. Two members of the family were closely associated with the College, Thomas D. Catlin, '57, for twenty-sever years a member of the Board of Trustees, and Mrs. Margaret Catlin Brandt, wife of Professor Brandt. Mrs. Goldthwaite was educated in the schools of Clinton, and her early life was chiefly spent in Clinton until her marriage to Samuel Alfred Munson of Utica in 1873. He died May 26, 1881. Mrs. Munson was married January 22, 1889, to Dr. Henry Goldthwaite of New York, who died January 3, 1895. Mrs. Goldthwaite was all her lifetime associated with her early home, retaining her membership in the Stone Church, and giving generous support ot many good causes. She was active in the work of the First Presbyterian Church of Utica, was a supporter of the Young Women's Christian Association, and was for a time on the Board of Directors of the Utica Orphan Asylum. Her benefactions to the College extended over a long period. From 1884 to 1908 she maintained the munson Prizes in German and in French, from 1890 until 1908 the Munson Fund of $250 annually for the purchase of books and periodicals in those departments, and from 1895 until 1908 the Munson Senior Prize Scholarship in German. Beginning in 1882 she contributed $1,000 annually to the Munson professorship, and in her will provision was made for the continuance of the payment. [:CR;]      Mrs. Goldthwaite was the last surviving member of the family of Professor Catlin. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Grace Munson Ellinwood, wife of Dr. F. F. Ellinwood, '88. The burial was in the College Cemetery, where her parents and other members of her family are buried.
