Loveny Edwards

b. 2 March 1782
  • Loveny Edwards was born on 2 March 1782 in Sumner County, Tennessee.
  • She married John Mitchell circa 1798.
  • In a deed of gift dated 24 May 1826, John Mitchell assigned to members of his family real and personal property of every description, retaining the conveyance for his support during his natural life, and after his death for the support of his wife Lovy during her widowhood. Named, in order: son James Mitchell, daughters Elizabeth Sims, Maria McKoin, Louisa Posey and Lucy Mitchell, son Leroy Mitchell, daughter Delian [sic] Mitchell, son John Mitchell, daughter Martha Mitchell, son William Mitchell, and grandson John McKoin. The deed was duly proven in open court in Sumner County, Tennessee, during the August Term, 1826.
  • On 20 October 1827, William Edwards prepared a will, summarized as follows: leaving bequests to his daughter Loveny Mitchell, grandson Prestley Hassell, granddaughter Charlotte Green, Harriett Looney, and four children of his deceased son William Edwards (Montalbot, Richard, William and Malvina), with the entire residue of his property to his youngest daughter Sally Douglass; he appointed his two sons-in-law, Reuben Douglass and William H. Douglass, executors. The will was recorded in Sumner County, Tennessee, during the February term, 1828. [Although the first bequest apparently has no recipient, likely it was his eldest daughter Elizabeth who is otherwise unmentioned, although her husband Reuben is named one of the executors.]
  • Loveny Edwards became a widow at the circa 1828 death of her husband John Mitchell.
  • It is possible that Elizabeth Simms was already a widow in 1830, enumerated in Sumner County, Tennessee, with four boys and three girls under the age of nine, and one female age 60-69, which would fit her mother Loveny Mitchell.
