Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Leigh Darrow, sister and brother-in-law Dorothy Bell & Paul Miller, sister and brother-in-law Joy & Homer Plentl and brother-in-law Tom Burke. He was the "rock" to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
         He leaves behind his devoted wife, Nanette Norman, daughter, Debi Gay, son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lynn and Laura Lantrip, sister Kathryn Burke, brother and sister-in-law, Billy & Juanita, brother-in-law Leslie Norman and wife June. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Lynnette Flanagan, Rob Lantrip and wife Jessica, Dray Wilson, Kristin Darrow, Michael Nelson and wife Jamie, and Liz Nelson. Also, his great-grandchildren, Tommy, Caroline & Keith Flanagan, Morgan, Maddie & Turney Lantrip, Devin Nelson and the newest edition, great great-grandchild Samuel Nelson.
         Bob graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1946 where he was active in all sports but excelled in football. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Lake Charles High School. He attended Rice University on a football scholarship where he played fullback. He played as a freshman in the Orange Bowl and as a senior in the Cotton Bowl in 1950. Bob worked for Houston Shell and Concrete for 30 years - retiring in 1992. Bob and Nan filled their lives with country western dancing and playing golf with their friends.
         A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Friday, January 25th at 3 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Terrace United Methodist Church, Baylor College of Medicine, Rice University or a charity of your choice.
  • The following appeared on 19 December 2011 in the Birmingham News: Leslie A. Norman, Jr., formerly of Metairie, LA, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at home in Birmingham, Al. He was 80. Born in Jennings, La., on Feb. 17, 1931, he was the son of the late Leslie A. Norman and Glenn Tatum.
         He is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, June Thibodeaux Norman; his sister Nanette Lantrip of Houston, Texas; five children, Paul A. Norman of New Orleans, La., Kirk F. Norman (September) of Hendersonville, Tenn., Jan N. Brill (Frank) of Sandy Hook, CT, Karen N. Carroll (Philip) of Birmingham, and Eric E. Norman (Angela) of Alpharetta, Ga; and 11 grandchildren: Stephen, Richard and Victoria Norman, Kristen and Landry Norman, Michael and Jennifer Brill, and Philip (IV) and Grace Carroll and Caroline and Charlotte Norman.
         He graduated in 1955 from Tulane's school of architecture in New Orleans, and was a member, emeritus, of the American Institute of Architecture. He also served as a captain in the U.S. Army. The family extends its special appreciation to Pat Reynolds and thanks to supporting friends and loved ones.
         A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Birmingham. Family will receive friends in the Founder's Room following the service. The family requests donations be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church or your favorite charity.

    Nannette Norman Lantrip (Sept. 4, 1928 - Oct. 23, 2013)
         Nannette Norman Lantrip was born in Dothen, Ala, to L. A. Norman and Glen Norman. The family moved to Lake Charles where she attended Central Elementary School and Lake Charles High School. She was a Kiltie and when she was a senior she was a Kiltie Colonel. After graduation she attended McNeese Junior College. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Bob Lantrip.
         She died in Houston, Texas, Oct. 23, 2013, after a long illness. Her body was donated to Baylor Medical School.
         She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Bob Turney Lantrip; a daughter, Brenda Darrow; and a sister, Betty Sue Ponton of Baton Rouge; a brother, Leslie A. Norman of Birmingham, Ala.
         She is survived by a son, Lynn Lantrip of Dallas; and a daughter, Debbie Lantrip of Houston; four grandchildren, Lynnette Davis, Rob Lantrip of Houston, Drake Howard Wilson and Kristin Darrow.
         There will be a memorial at a later.
