  • The following appeared on 29 December 1915 in the Charlotte Daily Observer: Wadesboro, Dec. 28.-- In the death of Capt. John McGehee Little; which occurred at the Charlotte Sanatorium, marks the end of a life prominent in Wadesboro during the memory of the present generation. Captain Little was born here September 11, 1844. He was a twin brother of Miss Mary Little, whom he survived two years, and is survived by one brother, Mr. Julius A. Little, his senior by four years. /P/ Captain Little was educated at the old Anson Institute, after which he entered a military school in Charlotte. While in training in this school the Civil War began and he was called back to Anson County to drill troops. Later he was commissioned lieutenant of a company from this county known as the ellis Rifles. He was commissioned by the Secretary of War for the Confederate States as drill master for troops coming into Raleigh and afterwards acted as chief enrolling officer of the seventh district. /P/ Captain Little's body was brought to Wadesboro Christmas Day and funeral services were held at the Episcopal Church Sunday afternoon were largely attended, burial being at East View cemetery at 3:30.
