  • He married Martha Elizabeth Rutherford, daughter of Benjamin H. Rutherford and Ann T. V. Moughon, on 4 March 1845 in Houston County, Georgia.
  • The following appeared on 6 March 1845 in the Macon Messenger: Married, Houston Co. 4 March by Rev. J. R. Kendrick, John P. Lamar of Macon to Miss Martha Elizabeth, dau. of Gen. B. H. Rutherford.
  • John P. Lamar and Martha Elizabeth Rutherford appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Houston County, Georgia, living not far from Marthha's brother Thomas, her half-brother John, and their father Benjamin Rutherford... Other members of the household included Vallina Lamar, Laviscia L. Lamar and Alphonso Lamar.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1850 census.
  • The following appeared on 22 July 1851 in The Georgia Telegraph: The subscriber offers four hundred acres of Land for sale, lying on the road from Macon to Perry, Houston county, adjoining the lands of Judge Nesbit, about two hundred acres cleared, under good fence, and nearly all in cotton this year. For terms, apply to the subscriber, living near the place. John P. Lamar.
  • John P. Lamar died on 21 October 1866 at age 46.
  • He was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon, Bibb County, Georgia.
  • The following appeared on 26 November 1866 in the Georgia Weekly Telegraph: (Bibb County) Whereas, Martha E Lamar applies to the undersighed for letters of administration upon the estate of J. P. Lamar, late of said county, deceased. /P/ All persons interested are hereby, required to be and appear at the Court of Ordinary on the first Monday in December next, to show cause, if any they have, why letters should not be granted the applicant. /P/ Witness my hand and official signature.   • The following appeared on 8 October 1869 in the Macon Weekly Telegraph: (Bibb County) All persons indebted to the Estate of John P. Lamar, late of said county, deceased, are required to make immediate payment to the undersigned and those having claims to render them in terms of the las. A. B. Ross, Administrator de bonis non.
  • The following appeared on 31 December 1872 in the Georgia Weekly Telegraph and Georgia Journal & Messenger: By virtue of an order from the Court of Ordinary of Bibb county, will be sold, before the Court-house door in the city of Macon, on the first Tuesday in January next, between the legal hours of sale, the following property belonging to the estate of John P. Lamar, late of said county, deceased, to-wit: All that portion of the Lamar Plantation situated on the line of Bibb and Crawford counties, not assigned as dower to Mrs. M. E. Lamar-- the same being 1500 acres, more or less. Terms half cash, and balance on 12 months' times. A. B. Ross, Admr. de bonis non.
