Mitchell. Captain Mitchell was one of the most prominent and influential men in East Alabama, and was the father of Hon. J. B. Mitchell, of Seale, and Dr. Will Mitchell, of Eufaula.

  • The following appeared on 18 July 1901 in The Columbus Enquirer-Sun: (Eufaula, Ala., July 17) Dr. William A. Mitchell died at his home in this city at 7:30 last night after a short illness of fever. His body was carried to Atlanta today for interment, accompanied by his wife, brother, A. C. Mitchell, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ormond, of Atlanta, who arrived here just before he died. Mrs. Ormond is his only child. The deceased was born in Glennville, Ala., 52 years ago. He came to Eufaula in 1875, and was one of the most skillful physicians in the south, a man of brilliant mind and unusual learning. He belonged to an old aristocratic family, and was universally respected. He had been a sufferer from rheumatism for the past ten years, and only practiced when calls were urgent. The entire community mourns with his family.
         Captain Americus Mitchell, who has charge of the Alabama recruiting office, is Dr. Mitchell's nephew. Another nephew, W. A. Mitchell, is a cadet at West Point.
