  • The following appeared on 17 June 1918 in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: J. A. Ball, a pioneer of Tarrant county, died at Vernon Sunday morning. The remains will reach Fort Worth this evening, and funeral services will be conducted from the home of his sister, Mrs. J. F. Keith, 1027 College avenue, at 10 a. m. Tuesday by Rev. C. L. Altfather. J. A. Ball came to Fort Worth in 1882 and was county treasurer for two terms. He was a Confederate veteran, and his comrades will act as pall bearers. He is survived by J. M. Ball of Houston, W. E. Ball of Fort Worth, Mrs. N. R. Tisdall of Vernon, Mrs. R. S. Jackson of McLean, and Mrs. G. M. Montgomery of Dallas.
