  • The following was published for his funeral, by Zion Hill Baptist Church:
         Rotea Gilford, born January 3, 1904 in Willis, Texas to Spencer and Bettie Gilford. He was the 7th of 9 children. Mr. Gilford moved to San Francisco, Calif. with his wife, Viola, two sons and one daughter.
         He later moved to Los Angeles where he resided until the death of his wife in 1972. Rotea and Lillian O. Howard were married August 11, 1974. He then moved to Compton, Calif. and resided there until his death on October 5, 1980 at 9:15 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Hospital.
         Mr. Gilford belonged to the Zion Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a member of the Trustee Board. [:CR:      He leaves to mourn, his wife, Lillian Gilford, Compton; two sons, Arthur Lee, Los Angeles and Rotea, Jr., San Francisco; one daughter, Gladys Pittman, San Francisco; two step-daughters, Zola Olive, Compton and Mildred Johnson, Toledo, Ohio, 19 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one brother, P. L. Gilford of Houston, Texas and a host of relatives and friends.
