Frank

b. circa 1833
  • Frank was born circa 1833 in Louisiana.
  • Research Note: Based on circumstantial evidence, it seems likely that Frank was a member of Green Mark Wood's household.
  • On Wednesday, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent Frank with Waggon up to the Malitia Camp," and on Saturday, "Frank returned from Malitia Camp with Waggon."
  • On Sunday, 25 October 1863, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Mr J. H. Williamson started to Hempstead to Malitia Camp this morning, sent Frank with him to bring back mules."
  • Following emancipation, Frank adopted the name Frank Venable.
  • He married Mary, daughter of Adam and Caroline, on 19 August 1866 in Montgomery County, Texas, with John E. George, M.P, officiating.
  • On the voter registration list for Montgomery County, Danville Precinct, dated 6 August 1867: Frank Venable, Frank Venable, Daniel McLemore, Adam Moses, Ben Harris, Smith Barnes, Beverly Harris and Charles Moses.
  • Frank and Mary appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Danville PO, Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included John Venable and James Venable. Ages of sons John and Jim are younger than indicated in the 1880 census, and three apparent daughters who appear in the 1880 Venable household -- Mollie (age 14), Cattie (13) and Adline (11) -- are missing from the household in 1870. It is possible that the girls were adopted daughters.
  • Frank and Mary appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1880 in Montgomery County, Texas, enumerated to Green Wood's grandson Solomon William Wood.. Other members of the household included John Venable, James Venable, Mollie Venable, Cattie Venable, Adline Venable, Frank Venable, Sallie Venable and George Venable.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1880 census.
