- Catherine was born on 21 October 1862 in Montgomery County, Texas, at Greenwood plantation near old Danville.
- On Wednesday, 22 October 1862, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Jinney had a Daughter last night."
- Following emancipation, Catherine adopted the name Catherine James.
- She married Edmund circa 1880.
- Edmund and Catherine appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1880 in Montgomery County, Alabama, enumerated not far from Catherine's family.
- Children of Jinney born between 1847 and 1864, were recorded by Green Wood.
