James Burke Thomason

  • James Burke Thomason was born circa 1832 in Lawrence County, Alabama.
  • Jabez Smyth Thomason appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included James Burke Thomason, Matilda Burke, Harriet Thomason, Amanda C. Thomason, Georgiann Thomason, Francis Marion Thomason, Martha Thomason and George Burke.
  • On Tuesday, 4 November 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent by James B. Thomason to Rice & Nichols six Bales of cotton in good order No. 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69 at 2.50 per Bale."
  • On Monday, 19 January 1852, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Mr Thomason's waggon took 6 Bales cotton No. 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88. Park gave receipt."
  • On Thursday, 5 February 1852, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Put 5 Bales cotton Mr Thompsons [sic] waggon No. 89, 90, 91, 92, 93."
  • Jabez Smyth Thomason and Sophia H. McCaleb appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Montgomery PO, Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included James Burke Thomason, Benjamin F. Thomason, George W. Thomason, Jabez S. Thomason, Mary Thomason, Ella Thomason and Francis Marion Thomason. Also in the household was merchant S. L. Scott, age 41.
  • He was a clerk, according the 1860 census.
  • He joined the Danville Mounted Riflemen on 4 May 1861, and on 29 March 1862, enlisted by John E. George in Danville, he joined Company B, 24th Texas Cavalry, CSA, as a private under Captain Samuel D. Wooldridge.
  • James Burke Thomason died on 11 January 1863 in the battle of Arkansas Post.
