Rosa Rowan

  • Rosa Rowan was born on 26 July 1858 in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.
  • She married Joseph Evans Pegues, son of Josiah James Pegues and Caroline Medora Fitts, on 13 December 1881.
  • Joseph Evans Pegues and Rosa Rowan appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1900 in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, at Jefferson. Other members of the household included Carolyn Medora Pegues, Annie Rowan Pegues, Harry Harrington Pegues, Ida Eaton Pegues, Rosa Rowan Pegues and Josiah James Pegues.
  • Rosa Rowan became a widow at the 4 March 1922 death of her husband Joseph Evans Pegues.
  • The following appeared on 5 September 1953 in The Tuscaloosa News: Mrs. Joseph Evans Pegues, widow of the late J. E. Pegues, died at her home here at 2 a. m. today.
         She was the daughter of the late Richard and Amanda Rowan of Jacksonville, Al. Mrs. Pegues was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock with the Rev. DuBose Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with Jones and Spiegener in charge.
         Mrs. Pegues was a prominent resident of Tuscaloosa all her life, and just passed her 95th birthday on July 26.
         Survivors include her four daughters, Mrs. John Forney Rowan, Jacksonville, Ala; Mrs. John Marion Daniel and Mrs. Benjamin Forney Wyley, Tuscaloosa; Mrs. David Hauseman, Baltimore, Mr; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harry Harrington Pegues; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
  • Rosa Rowan died on 5 September 1953 at age 95 in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.
  • She was interred at Evergreen Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.
