  • The following appeared on 15 February 1932 in The Charlotte Observer: (Cheraw, S. C., Feb 14) Mrs. Walter D. Pegues, 67, member of a prominent Cheraw and Marlboro county family, died Sunday afternoon at her home here from a stroke of paralysis which she suffered Sunday morning. Before her marriage, she was Miss Ida Irby, daughter of William W. and Julia Mary Pegues Irby of Marlboro county where she was reared.
         She is survived by her husband and four children, Misses Olivia, Ethel and Julia Pegues of Cheraw and Charlie Pegues of Raleigh; two brothers, Joe Irby of Cheraw and William Irby of Florida; and two sisters, Miss Julia and Rebecca Irby of Florida. The funeral arrangements have not been completed.

         Miss Pegues was a daughter of the late Walter D. and Ida Irby Pegues. She was an employe of the Cheraw Hardware Co. for more than 45 years.
         Surviving are two sisters, Miss Julia Pegues and Miss Olivia Pegues of the home.
  • The following appeared on 28 December 1969 in The Florence Morning News: (Cheraw) Miss Julia Pegues, 71, died Friday in Chesterfield County Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
         Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at her home on Church Street. Burial, directed by Stubbs-Reid Funeral Home, will be in Old Saint David Cemetery.
         Miss Pegues was the daughter of the late Walter D. and Ida Irby Pegues. She worked for the town of Cheraw for 35 years before her retirement.
         Surviving are one sister, Miss Olivia Pegues of the home.
