  • The following appeared on 8 August 1903 in The Macon Telegraph: Mr. Lewis L. Abbott, one of Atlanta's most prominent citizens, who for a long number of years ago was engaged in the wholesale grocery business of Atlanta, was seriously injured Wednesday night last by falling from the platform of a car as he was about to leave it. He was carried to the Grady hospital. An investigation of his injuries developed the fact that this skull was fractured. He has never been conscious since he was hurt, and fears are expressed that he is fatally injured.

  • The following appeared on 8 August 1903 in The Augusta Chronicle: (Atlanta, Aug. 7) Lewis J. Abbott, who fell from a trolley car and was seriously injured last Wednesday night, died from his injuries at St. Joseph's infirmary today.
         Mr. Abbott was an elderly man. He was a dealer in provisions.
         He resided at the corner of Pryor street and Trinity avenue.
