  • The following appeared on 10 December 1916 in The Columbus Inquirer-Sun: Richard M. Norman, prominent citizen of this city, breathed his last at his late home on Fourth avenue last night about eleven o'clock. The end came to this well known man after a long illness, he having been in bad health for the past year or more. The news of his sad demise will be learned by his many friends in this section of the state with sincere regret. /P/ The deceased, who was sixty-five years of age, was a devout member of Trinity Episcopal church, always being active in the work of the church. /P/ Mr. Norman, born at Villuia [sic], Ala., moved to this city in early boyhood, and lived here a greater part of his life. He lived in Texas a number [sic] but returned to Columbus where he resided up until the time of his death. /P/ The deceased gentleman was actively engaged in business a number of years, he being a member of the firm of Norman and Pease, bookstore several years ago. He was a member of the firm of Norman and Dexter, brokers, up until about a year ago, when he retired. /P/ Surviving Mr. Norman are his wife, who was Miss Effie McDougald; one son, Francis Norman, of this city; one brother, Jno. Norman, of this city, and five sisters, Mrs. Barnett, of Troy, Ala; Mrs. Clark, of Atlanta; Mrs. L. A. Pease, Miss Maggie Norman, and Miss Elizabeth Norman, of this city. /P/ The funeral will be held from the late residence on Fourth avenue Monday morning at ten o'clock, with Rev. Alston Wragg, conducting the services.
