         "He expressed a lot of what he said in his words, but you could see it not only when he spoke, but (also) in his written words."
         Boring, 92, died Friday in Honolulu.
         To honor Boring, the flags at all Rosenberg city facilities will be flown at half-staff until Monday, December 19.
         "He loved the fire department," said Barbara Smolik, public information officer for the Rosenberg Fire Department. "He was really (involved) in the pumper races."
         Pete Pavlovsky, a former Rosenberg Fire Department fire marshall who retired in 2000 after 27½ years in the department, worked with Boring and echoed the same sentiments as Smolik.
         "C.H. Was very devoted to that fire department," said Pavlovsky, who also was an assistant fire marshall and firefighter, among other positions, at the department.
         "And he loved the competition of the pumper races. Overall, he was just a great fire chief."
         Boring began his career with the Rosenberg Fire Department in 1936 and was elected chief in 1955, according to the information from the Rosenberg Fire Department.
         Boring, who used to own a variety store downtown, served Rosenberg Fire Department for 45 years, with 26 of those years as chief of that department until his retirement in 1981.
         During his tenure in the department, he was president of the Tri-Rivers and Gulf Coast Firefighters Association.
         In 1961, Boring served as president of the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas, and this year marked the 50th anniversary of his presidency.
