He was a stock raiser, according to the 1900 census.
He married Mary Estelle Wood, daughter of Robert Cummings Wood and Margaret Elizabeth Wynne, on 25 July 1900 in Grimes County, Texas.
Robert Kyle Lockett and Mary Estelle Wood appeared in the US federal census of 15 April 1910 in Navasota, Grimes County, Texas. Other members of the household included Minnie Catherine Lockett.
He was a cattle man, buying and selling, according to the 1910 census.

His wife Mary Estelle Wood became a widow at his death.
