  • Edward Wood was born circa 1672 in Upper Norfolk County, Virginia.
  • He married Mary (?) circa 1695.
  • On 11 October 1707 Edward Wood made a gift to his sons Edward and Mark:
         To all to whom these presents shall come: Know that I Edward of ye County of Princess Anne for ye love and affectioin I bear to my sons Edward Wood and Mark Wood of ye County aforesaid, doe therefore by these presents for their future good and maintenance freely give unto them my sons Edward Wood and Mark Wood a parcel of land in the Dam Neck formerly William Linton to be equally divided between them but my son Mark to have his part where he is now a settler, the same to have and to hold to them my sons Edward and Mark Wood and to their heirs forever, but I ye said Edward Wood Senior and my wife Catherine Wood not to be debarred of carrying off stock nor getting timber for Old Plantation use upon my part of ye tract of land I have above mentioned and my son William Wood to have ye same priviledge to carying off stock and getting off timber for his Plantation use to him and his heirs forever, in a large and ample manner to as it is to me granted by virtue of ye said Bill of Sale.          Record of this gift, which is designated a Bill of Sale, on file in Princess Anne County, Virginia Court House (Deed Book #1, old page 506, new page 413).
  • On 17 February 1723/24, Edward Wood signed the following will:
         In the name of God Amen, I Edward Wood being of Sound and perfect mind & memory thanks be to almighty God but cauling to mind my frailty & that we are always passing & sliding away out of this world, I Do therefore make & ordain this to be my last will & Testament in manner & form following & I do also revoke & disanul all other wills made by me heretofore Either by writing [or] otherwise --
         First I give & bequeath my poor but prosio. mortal Soul into the hands of almighty God my creator hopeing to be received through ye merrits of Jesus Christ my redeemer & my body to ye Earth from whence it came to be buryed by ye discretion of my Exor after Named and as for my personal Estate which god has been pleas'd to endow me with I dwo dispose of as followeth:
         Item: I give & bequeath unto my son William Wood all & sundry part & parcel of my Tract or devident of land which I now live upon with all houses orchards & all other apurnitancis thereunto belonging to him my Said son William & to his heirs forever only my wife to live upon the plantation dureing her widowhood ---
         It: I give unto my son William Wood two iron wedges & a carponders ads & drawing knife and one auger. --
         It: I give & bequeath unto my sone Mark Wood one feather bed & furniture; --
         It: I give & bequeath unto my son John Wood five pounds out ye rest of my moveable Estat which I desier my son William may take into his possession for ye schooling of my son John; -- It: I give & bequeath unto my wife Mary Wood one feather bed & furniture & one cheast cauled by ye Name of ye New chest; --
         And as for all ye rest of my goods & chattels after my Just debts are paid I desire it may be Equally devided between my wife & my three sons Mark William & John and desire that my son William keep my Son John till he comes to age with what part of Estate I have given him; --
         And for the true maniging of this my last will & Testament I do appoint my true & well beloved son William Wood my whole & Sole Executor in witness of all ye above promisis I have hereunto Set my hand & fixed my Seale this 17th day of February 1723/4. Edward Wood (his mark)
         Sign'd and Seal'd in presents of us, Tho. Nash Senr., Ann I Nash and Solomon Nash.
         Princess Anne: At a court held the 27th May 1735, Then the within last will of Edw. Wood Senr decd. was presented in court by William Wood his Exor who made oath thereto & being proved by ye oaths of Ann Nash & Solo. Nash witnesses thereto is admitted to record.
