  • William Wood was born circa 1726 in Princess Anne County, Virginia.
  • On 27 October 1734, Mark Wood signed the following will:
         In the name of God Amen, whereas I commit my body to ye earth & my soul unto God [who] gave it, whereas I do bequeath unto my loving wife Sara Wood all my estate within doors & without of doors, exception I give to my son William Wood my riden hors & my long goun, two couse, one as a calf, and fore him to be at age at ninteen & to my son Mark Wood one young mexd [gray] mare, one short goun, to to year old hefer & one year old ifer yearlen and for him to be at age at ninteen & I give to my son Solomon Wood my plantation and all me land there belongin & if he die without are to his brother Mark Wood & ye rest of his sher & likewise if my son Mark Wood should dy without are for his sher to fall to his brother Solomon Wood & I give Abbe Salter thurtee shilans & likewise to my granddaughter Elizabeth Salter thurtee shilens & to my grandaughter Sary Salter twenty shilens which all ye rest duren all my wifes life & after her desces for it all to be equally devided between my three sons but all my debts to be paid first at witness my hand & seale this day and year above menschend: which I do make my wife Sara Wood my holy Exesedkettor.          Witnessed by Moses M. F. Frntres and Chrls M. Salter. Princess Anne, at a Court held ye 3d Sept. 1735, Then ye withinlast will of Mark Wood dec'd was presented in court by Sarah Wood his Exor who made an oath thereto & being proved by the oaths of James & Moses Fentris witnesses thereto is admited to record.
  • He married Lydia Ballentine, daughter of William Ballentine and Judy (?), circa 1744.
  • William and Lydia Wood and their family probably arrived in North Carolina from Virginia about 1756.
  • He acquired property at Johnston County, North Carolina, on 6 May 1757 from the Right Honourable the Earl Granville, 640 acres on Little Swift Creek, deed dated 6 May 1757, entered in the Office of the Right Honourable the Earl Granville on 27 January 1755.
  • Court Martial Minutes, Johnston County, North Carolina (21 August 1771): Ordered that Wm. Eason Ithell Eason Wm. Ryall? Jesse Wood . . . & all who Lives with them and on Wm. Wood Esq Place on black Creek that is able to Rais Arms to Muster Under Capt. David Mims.
  • Court Minutes, Johnston County, North Carolina (28 May 1777): Returned into Court by John Wood an account current of the Estate of Marke Wood Des'd ordered that William Avera and John Rand Esquires be appointed to audit & settle the same, who in pursuance thereof returned a balance of £2 14.16.5 due from the said John Wood Executor in his own mony which acct. is ordered to be fild the said John Wood returned an Inventory & account of Sale of the said Estate ordered to be fild also;
         Ordered that John Wood be appointed Guardian to Ashley Wood orphan of Mark Wood Des'd who entered into the Bond & Security to wit: Wm. Wood Senior, Wm. Wood Junior Solomen Wood in the sum of six hundred pounds. Ordered that Elizabeth Eason be allowed twelve pounds for the maintenance & support of Ashley Wood orphan of Mark Wood Des'd sixteen months & that John Wood pay the same.
         Ordered that the following Persons be appointed Constables: John Oliver, Robert Gulley, John Wood, William Wood Jr, Nicholson Lee.
  • Were discharged from the Militia Service (Capt. Arthur Bryans Company) on account of their age and infirmities at the 15 August 1777 Court Marshall of Johnston County. William Wood and William Eason IV.
  • Court Minutes, Johnston County, North Carolina (May 1778): John Wood came into Court and Resigned his Guardianship to Ashley Wood Orphan of Mark Wood Desd, whereupon Soloman Wood was appointed Guardian to the said Orphan who entered into a Bond with William Wood Senr. and John Wood his Securitys in the Sum of One thousand pounds for the faithful performance of his Guardianship. Ordered that John Wood be allowed Ten pounds for his Expence in maintain-- Ashley Wood orphan of Mark Wood Desd. heretofore. Issued.
