Griffin, the well-known milkman, has purchased the shop belonging to John Tompkins, formerly occupied by our energetic and spirited townsman, Annias Barger, and will shortly move it on to his premises, near Oregon, and turn it into a wagon house.
  • The following appeared on 5 June 1897 in the Putnam County Republican: Mrs. Amy Wanless, wife of Richard Wanless, died at her home in Asbury Park, N. J., on Tuesday of last week, from apoplexy, after a brief illness. Mrs. Wanless was born in Philipstown, Putnam Co., in 1850, and after her first marriage to William Rolfe, resided in Peekskill until the death of her husband in 1885. In 1892 she was married to Mr. Wanless and went to reside in New Jersey. The deceased is survived by two children by her first husband, Charles Rolfe, a carpenter, who resides in Peekskill, and Mrs. Frred. Hyatt, of New Canaan, Conn., and her husband, three brothers, John, Marcus and Jacob N. Griffin of Putnam Valley, and also Mrs. Willian Woolcock, of Sterlington. Mrs. Wanless' father, two brothers, Willian Henry, George and Mrs. Elvin Chase, all died from the same complaint, apoplexy. The remains were brought to Peekskill on Thursday and the funeral services were held from the residence of Mr. Edward Woolcock on Depew St. Interment at.
  • The following appeared on 2 October 1897 in The Highland Democrat: (Peekskill) The funeral services of Sarah F. Woolcock, wife of William T. Woolcock, of Sterlington, Rockland county, N. Y., were held in this village on Tuesday afternoon, the remains interred at Van Courtlandtville. She died at her home in Sterlington of paralysis, after a brief illness on Saturday last. She was the daughter of the late Jay and Sarah F. Griffin, and was born in Philipstown, Putnam county, on June 13, 1852, and was 45 years, 3 months and 14 days old. About twenty years ago she joined the South street M. E. church. She was a sister of Jacob Griffin, of Oregon, John Griffin and Marcus Griffin of this place and a half sister of Mrs. Edwin Woolcock of Depew street. She leaves a husband and seven children, five sons, Edward, Charles, Richard and George [and] McGrane, and two daughters, Ella and Addie.

  • The following appeared on 5 October 1901 in The Highland Democrat: (Oregon) With much regret we chronicle the death of Jacob N. Griffin, which occurred last Sunday afternoon, after an illness of short duration. Mr. Griffin was born in Putnam County, and had lived in this place about twenty years. He was an honored and respected citizen, having held many offices of public trust. A wife and two sons, James and Alvin, are left to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate husband and father. The funeral services were held at his late residence, and were conducted by the Revs. N. O. Lent and Henry Williams, followed by the Grange services at the grave.
  • The following appeared on 5 October 1901 in The Highland Democrat: (Canopus) We were sorry to hear of the death of Jacob Griffin, on the southern Canopus road, near Oregon, who died on Sunday afternoon last, at 4 o'clock, after four days sickness, of pleuro-pneumonia. His funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, at his late residence, and was conducted by the Rev. N. O. Lent, of Canopus, and the Rev. Henry Williams, of Van Cortlandtville, and was largely attended by a great many people from a distance, as well as from Canopus and Oregon. The family have our sympathy in their sad affliction. They have lived here 21 years. Mr. Griffin leaves a wife and two grown-up married sons to mourn his loss. Interment was in Hillside cemetery, at Van Cortlandtville.
