         On Tuesday the choir of the German Lutheran church of South avenue had a delightful afternoon's outing down the river to Youngstown. Those who formed the party were the Misses Lizzie Fink, Fredericha Sippel, Libbie Sippel, Lottie Rieckhoff and Maggie Clayton and Emanuel Nussbaum, George C. Haeberle and Charles Heywang.
         They stopped at the Eldorado hotel and had supper and there they dropped a little surprise upon Emanuel Nussbaum who has been a member of the choir for 13 years, during 11 of which he has served as director. This surprise was occasioned by the fact that he is about to retire frome the choir for the summer months and was in the shape of a presentation. The gift was a very handsome watch chain and charm on which was the following inscription: "E. NUSSBAUM. From the German Lutheran Church Choir. 1893.
         During the outing a sail on the river was had and it added much to the pleasure of the day.

         Emanuel G. Nussbaum, one of the most widely known residents of Niagara Falls, where he had lived for the past 70 years, died early this morning at his home, 1641 Tenth street. He was 87 years old and had been seriously ill only a short time.
         Born in Switzerland [sic], Mr. Nussbaum came here as a youth and had resided here ever since. He was connected with the Haeberle Lumber company for about 50 years, holding the office of vice-president and director when he retired 18 years ago. He was a member of the Exempt Firemen's association and Niagara Falls Lodge, No. 81, I. O. O. F.
         Surviving him are a son, former Councilman George F. Nussbaum, of this city, and two daughters, Mrs. Melving Taylor, of this city, and Mrs. Emma Sonnenberg, of Mt. Clemens, Mich.
         Private funeral services will be held at the family home at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Arthur H. Schmoyer, of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
  • The following appeared on 30 December 1938 in the Niagara Falls Gazette:
          Two grandsons and four nephews served as pallbearers yesterday afternoon at the funeral of Emanuel Nussbaum, widely know aged resident, who died Tuesday. The services were conducted at the family home, 1641 Tenth street, by the Rev. Arthur H. Schmoyer, pastor of the Zion Evangelical Luthern church, and interment was made in Oakwood cemetery.
         The pallbearers were Nelson Nussbaum and Dr. George Nussbaum, grandsons, and Walter Haeberle, George Haeberle, Jr., Carl Haeberle and Frank Swan, nephews.
