- Johannes Balz and Catharina (?) arrived in the Port of New York on 2 September 1854, accompanied by Maria Balz, Nicolaus Balz and Jacob Balz aboard the American Ship Rattler from Le Havre. Also traveling with them was Anna Maria Balz, age 17, likely Johannes' sister.
