  • The following appeared on 1 August 1908 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Frank Rieger, 76 years old, died at his late residence in Sugar street near Lockport street at 11 o'clock this morning after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Rieger has been in failing health for some time. He is survived by a wife, two sons, Herman M. and Frank, of this city; three daughters, Mrs. Charles S. Braas and Mrs. Martin T. Ryan of this city, and Mrs. S. Rieger of Lockport; and one syster, Mrs. Frances Regenhardt of this city.
         The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock from the house and at 9 o'clock from the Church of the Sacred Heart.
         Mr. Rieger has been a resident of Niagara County for over 50 yeaars, and of this city about 40 years. Both in business and in social life he was highly regarded for his sterling worth.

He spent his early life at Niagara Falls and later purchased a farm in the Town of Cambria, residing there until four years ago when he retired from active farming. in 1870 he married Frances Rieger, daughter of the late Frank Rieger of Niagara Falls, who survives him. He is also survived by seven childen, Carrie, Agnes, Ada C., and Wilbur of this city; Clarence H. of the Town of Cambria; Frances A. and Mary M. of Niagara Falls. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 from the home and 10 from St. Mary's Church. Burial at Riverdale cemetery, Niagara Falls.
  • The following appeared on 21 August 1935 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: In ill health for several months, Mrs. Anna Bra[a]s, 74 years old, widow of Charles F. Braas, former prominent building contractor, died late yesterday at her summer home in the Lake road, near Wilson.
         Born in the town of Niagara, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reiger [sic], Mrs. Braas spent almost her entire life in Niagara Falls and was one of the best known residents of the north end of the city.
         Of genial disposition, Mrs. Braas had gained a wide circle of friends during her long residence here. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart church and had formerly taken an active part in its affairs.
         She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Francis Dolan, of this city, a sister, Mrs. Francis Reiger, of Lockport, and a brotherm, Herman M. Reiger, of East Orange, N. J. Three grandchildren also survive.
         Funeral services will be held from the Braas home, 1324 South Avenue, Friday at 8:30 o'clock, and at 9 o'clock from Sacred Heart church. Interment will be in the family plot in Riverdale cemetery.

  • The following appeared on 10 January 1941 in the Lockport Union-Sun & Journal: Two elderly Lockport women, Mrs. Martha E. Bradley, 80, of 226 East avenue, and Mrs. Frances Rieger, 82, of 264 Washburn street, died early today in Lockport City hospital where they were taken Tuesday with fractured hips suffered when they fell in their respective homes.

         Mrs. Rieger was born in Niagara Falls, daughter of Frank and Caroline Rieger, pioneer residents of the Cataract City. She spent the greater part of her life there, coming to Lockport 20 years ago. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and the Altar and Rosary Society.
         Her husband, Sebastian Rieger, died in 1920. Surviving are five daughters, Miss Ada Rieger, confidential secretary to Supreme Court Justice William A. Gold and Miss Carrie Rieger, Lockport; Miss Frances and Miss Agnes Rieger, Niagara Falls and Mrs. William E. Gallagher, Akron, O., two sons, Clarence Rieger, Cambria and Wilbur Rieger, Niagara Falls and five grandchildren.
         Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 o'clock at the home, 264 Washburn street, and at 9:30 at St. Mary's church. Burial will be in Riverdale cemetery, Niagara Falls.
