  • The following appeared on 28 November 1925 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: The funeral of Mrs. Judith Murtha was held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock from her home, No. 2815 Macklem avenue. The Rev. D. H. Weeks, of the Epiphany Episcopal church, conducted the service. Burial was in Riverdale cemetery.
         Mrs. Murtha died on Tuesday. She was 56 years old and a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles S. Bank, of Albany and Miss Marion Murtha of this city, and a son, Dr. William H. Murtha, of this city, her mother, Mrs. Thomas Shipston; a sister, Miss Jane Shipston, and five brothers, Albert, of Rochester; Edmund, of Youngstown; Clark and Fred, both of this city; and George of La Salle.
         The bearers at the funeral yesterday were Ernest Potter, Omar Neville, Otto J. Jacoby, Frank P. Freel, George Stoll and M. H. Hendley.

  • The following appeared on 1 March 1954 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Funeral services will be held Thursday for Charles F. Banks, 68, of 1856 Michigan Ave., a former engineer at the Carborundum Co., who died Saturday at St. Petersburg, Fla., where he had been spending the winter. He retired from the plant three years ago due to ill health.
         Born in England, Mr. Banks lived in this city for the last 41 years. A member of Niagara River Lodge No. 785, F&AM, he organized the first El Grotto Band of Masons in Niagara Falls. The lodge will conduct a service Wednesday at 8 P. m. at the Otto Redanz Funeral Home.
         Mr. Banks also was a member of El Nigra Grotto, was active in the Niagara Falls Power Engineers, and belonged to John J. Welsh Post No. 381, American Legion. He was a member of the Carborundum Band.
         Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth H. Banks, this city, and three sisters in England.
         Friends may call after noon tomorrow at the funeral home where services will be held Thursday at 1 p. m. with the Rev. John E. Wickenden, pastor of Epiphany Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery.
  • The following appeared on 24 January 1959 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Dr. William H. Murtha, 62, of 812 Cayuga Dr., a native of Niagara Falls and a dentist here for 31 years, died today (Jan. 24, 1959) after a long illness.
         Dr. Murtha was graduated from DeVeaux School and the University of Buffalo School of Dentistry. He also attended Cornell University and the Sorbonne, Paris.
         A member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans, Dr. Murtha served as an officer with the 1st Division in France during World War I. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
         He was a member of the Niagara Falls Dental Society and had been president of the organization. He belonged to the Niagara Club, the Niagara Falls Country Club and the Niagara Frontier Golf Club.
         Dr. Murtha retired from practice about two years ago due to illness. His office was at 411 Pine Ave.
         Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vera M. Murtha; a daughter, Mrs. Donald F. Freund, Wallingford, Conn; two sisters, Miss Marion I. Murtha and Mrs. C. F. Banks, both of this city, and one granddaughter.
         Funeral services will be arranged by Cornell and Daggett Funeral Chapel.
