Ballentine & Co., Newark, for 35 years before retiring in 1965. /P/ He served in the Army during World War II under General George Patton and saw action at the Battle of the Bulge. /P/ Mr. Schembs had been a Westfield committeeman and served as a scout master for Boy Scout Troop 77 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mr. Schembs also was a coach with the Westfield Little League for five years. /P/ Born in Birmingham, Ala., he lived in Newark before moving to Westfield in 1952. /P/ Surviving are his wife, Florence; a son, Douglas C. Jr., and a grandchild.
