  • She officially witnessed the death of John L. McClintock on 1 February 1919 at 1311 Buchanan in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas; The Topeka Daily Capital: John L. McClintock, Aged 92, a Descendant of Colonial Family. John L. McClintock, pioneer Kansan, died yesterday morning at the home of his son, O. P. M. McClintock, 1311 Buchanan, at the age of 92 years. Death was not unexpected, as Mr. McClintock has been under the care of a trained nurse since December, 1916. Mr. McClintock is survived by two sons, O. P. M. McClintock, who for twenty-two years was principal of Clay school, and for the past four years principal of both Clay and Harrison schools; W. S. McClintock, of Kansas City, and by a daughter, Mrs. W. H. McCoy, of Fairbury, Neb.
         Mr. McClintock was born in Guileford county, N. C., February 12, 1827. In 1836 his parents moved to the wilderness of Delaware County, Ind., where his young manhood was spent, enduring the hardships of pioneer life.
         He served five years as county auditor of Delaware county, Inc., and seven years as the president of the board of education of Muncie, Inc. In 1880 he brought his family to Miami county, Kan., and in 1882 he came to Shawnee county, where he has lived since.
         The McClintock family dates back many generations in North Carolina. The grandfather of John McClintock, John Starrett, was in the Colonial army, fought in the Revolutionary war against the invasion of North Carolina by Lord Cornwallis. He eventually was taken prisoner by the English general. For refusing to take the oath of allegiance to England at the time of his capture, Starrett was shot and left for dead, but recovered.
         The funeral of John McClintock will be held from the home of O. P. M. McClintock, 1311 Buchanan, Monday at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the Topeka cemetery.

  • The following appeared on 16 June 1935 in The Lincoln Star: Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McCoy, residents of Fairbury for 43 years, observed their golden wedding anniversary June 12, when they held open house for their friends from 8 until 8 o'clock. A family dinner was given at six o'clock at the Mary Etta hotel for relatives and out-of-town guests including their three daughters and families: Mrs. George W. Weiler, Indianola, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Austin and daughter, Miss Jane Austin, of Beatrice; and Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Hackman of Lawrence, Kas. Other out-of-town guests were mrs. C. A Gregory, Chicago, Ill; Mr. H. L. Quail, Topeka, Kas; Mr. and Mrs. O. P. M. McClintock and son Morton, Topeka, Kas; Bishop E. V. Shaylor, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Shedd and Miss Rose Schramm of Beatrice.
         Mrs. McCoy is a charter member of the Fairbury Woman's club, which she helped to organize, and has been its president. Mr. McCoy is a retired Rock Island train dispatcher.
         The rooms were decorated with Ophelia roses and peonies, and the appointments were in yellow and white. One hundred and fifty were present.

  • The following appeared on 27 June 1946 in the Beatrice Daily Sun: Mrs. W. H. McCoy, 81, of Fairbury died at Fairbury Wednesday evening after a long illness.
         Mrs. McCoy leaves three daughters, Mrs. E. C. Austin of Beatrice, Mrs. Elizabeth Weiler of Fairbury and Mrs. Ethyl Hackman of Lawrence, Kans. Mr. McCoy passed away a number of years ago.
         Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Friday afternoon from Emmanuel Episcopal church at Fairbury. Burial will be in Topeka, Kans.
  • The following appeared on 15 July 1946 in the Beatrice Daily Sun: Mrs. W. H. McCoy. Ella McClintock was born May 7, 1863 [sic], at Middletown, Ind., and was married to W. H. McCoy at Topeka Kans., June 12, 1995. The family moved to Fairbury in April, 1892, where McCoy ws employed by the Rock Island as a dispatcher until his retirement May 29, 1929.
         Mrs. McCoy was a charter member of the Fairbury Woman's club and served as its president in 1916-1917. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Weiler of Fairbury, Mrs. Wanda Austin of Beatrice and Mrs. Ethyl Hackman of Lawrence, Kansas, one brother, W. S. McClintock of Kansas City, Mo., two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
         Funeral services were held June 28th from the Immanuel Episcopal church at Fairbury with the Rev. Robert O. Reddish officiating. Burial at Topeka.
