  • The following appeared on 3 April 1929 in the Lockport Union-Sun & Journal: St. Mary's Church was the scene of a very lovely after-Easter wedding this morning when at 9 o'clock Rev. August Wiese united in marriage Catherine Marie, daughter of Mrs. Theresa Sippel of North Transit Street, and John Joseph Toohill, also of this city. Easter flowers were used in the church decorations and the wedding music by Bernice Behse, organist, with Miss Margaret Conley of Gasport, cousin of the groom, soloist who during the service rendered the Regina Coeli.
         The bride wore and ensemble costume of navigator blue silk with crepe chiffon blouse in pastel shades and hat, shoes and gloves to match. She carried an old fashioned hand bouquet of pink roses, lilies of the valley and orchid sweet peas. Attendants were Miss Ruth E. Schumacher of New York City, cousin of the bride, and Frank Toohill, brother of the groom, the bridesmaid wearing a costume similar to that of the bride, in a deeper shade of blue, and her bouquet was fashioned of a deeper shade of roses and sweet peas.
         A wedding breakfast for the immediate families followed at the home of the bride, where the house decorations were carried out in Easter colors of orchid and white, with eleven seated at the bridal table.
         Later Mr. and Mrs. Toohill left for a motor trip, the bride wearing away a gown of tan faille crepe with corresponding coat, hat, shoes and gloves and upon their return they will reside here.
         Among pre-nuptial entertainments for Miss Sippel were a bridge tea given at the Imp Inn on Saturday by Misses Mabel Snyder and Irene Toohill and a reception and bridge given Monday evening by Mrs. George Sheehan and the Misses Margaret and Edith Frombgen at the home of the latter on North Transit Street.

  • The following appeared on 20 August 1940 in the Lockport Union-Sun & Journal: Henry V. Sippel, 42, Lockport fireman, died suddenly at 6 o'clock this morning at his home, 159 Washington street, of an acute heart attack. He had been ill only two days.
         Mr. Sippel was born in Niagara Falls but lived in Lockport practically all his life. He was educated in the public and parochial schools. As a young an he was employed at the former Indurated Fibre corporation plant in East Lockport. He was a millwright at the Harrison Radiator plant when he was appointed to the fire Department in May, 1926.
         Surviving is his widow Mrs. Mary Woodruff Sippel; two sons, Francis and Eugene Sippel; his mother, Mrs. Theresa Sippel and two sisters, Miss Marguerite Sippel and Mrs. John Toohill, all of Lockport.
         Services will be held Friday morning at 8:30 at the home and at 9 o'clock at St. Patrick's church. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery.

Toohill, both of Lockport and the late Henry V. Sippel; sister of Henry A. Frombgen, Lockport; Mrs. Ana G. Schumacher of Great Hills, Staten Island; Margaret and K. Edith Fromgen of Lockport; and eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral Friday morning at 8:30 from the Gaul Funeral Home, East Avenue and at 9 o'clock from St. Mary's Church. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
