(1), and Mattie's sister and brother Alice D. (20) and William H. (10) Jennings, as well as stock herders Edward C. Born and Carlos Santos.

  • She married Emmet Harvey Nichols, son of John Frederick Owen Nichols and Ruth Ingram, on 25 July 1917 in Kerrville, Kerr County, Texas, in the Baptist parsonage with the pastor, Rev. J. D. Riddle, officiating.

  • The following appeared on 22 November 1934 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: W. S. Jennings celebrated his 87th birthday Tuesday at his home, 1201 Park Street, when members of the family were present.
         Mr. Jennings, a native Texas, is one of the few surviving soldiers who fought for the lost cause of the Confederacy. As a young man, he lived in Erath County and moved to Kerr County about 35 years ago.
         The birthday dinner table was decorated with chrysanthemums and was laden with delicious foods. Seated with Mr. Jennings were his three daughters, Miss Daisy Jennings, Mrs. Otto Kittle and Mrs. F. M. Turner. Other guests were grandchildren, Mrs. Emmett Nichols, Frank McClain, and Otto Kittel, Jr; great grandchildren Elizabeth and alice Nell Nichols and Joan Miller, Otto Kittel and Emmett Nichols.
         During the day numerous messages from friends and relatives were received.
  • The following appeared on 18 July 1935 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mrs. H. M. Smith and Mrs. E. H. Nichols, accompanied by Misses Elizabeth and Alice Nell Nichols, Ruby Chambliss and Reba Robinson and Lewis Fisher and Clarence Hamm, left Tuesday for Alto Frio where they will attend the Baptist Encampment. The young people are representatives of the Baptist Young People's Societies of the first Baptist Church.
  • The following appeared on 12 November 1936 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: W. S. Jennings celebrated his 89th birthday anniversary Sunday in his home on Park Street, Friday, November 20, is the date of Mr. Jennings' birth, but the celebration was held early as someof the relatives could not be present later. [:CR;]      The venerable man had for his guests for this occasion his three daughters, Miss Daisy Jennings, Mrs. F. M. Turner, both of this city, and Mrs. Otto Kittel of Houston. Two granddaughters, Mrs. E. H. Nichols and Mrs. J. P. Lacey of San Antonio and four great grandchildren were present. A son, W. J. Jennings, of Louisiana, was unable to be present.
  • The following appeared on 12 August 1937 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: The engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Elizabeth Nichols to Louis Fisher was made Saturday evening when Miss Nichols and Miss Ada Mae Wickson entertained in the Nichols home on Travis Street, honoring Miss Eloise McCauley.
         The wedding of Miss Nichols, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols, and Mr. Fisher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher, will be an event of the latter part of the month. Later the young couple will go to Brownwood where both will attend Howard Payne College during the year. Since Miss Nichols' graduation from high school she has been employed at the Kerrville Telephone Co., and the groom-to-be has been attending Simmons University in Abilene for two years.
         Miss McCauley, whose marriage to Charles Oehler will be solemnized next week. . .
  • The following appeared on 14 October 1937 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols are spending the month of October with Mr. Nichols' father on his ranch near Ingram.
  • The following appeared on 13 April 1939 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Fisher and Frank Fisher, Jr., students in the Howard Payne College in Brownwood, spent the Easter vacation in Kerrville with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher, and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols. Mrs. Fisher, who is a college sophomore, rated the college honor roll with a total of 36 grade points out of a posible 40.
  • The following appeared on 18 May 1939 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols are spending this week in Galveston where Mr. Nichols is attending the State convention of the Association of Tax Assessors and Collectors.
  • The following appeared on 8 June 1939 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mrs. H. M. Smith and son, Holland, of Henderson were in Kerrville last week for a few days' visit with Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols and other friends. Reverend Smith, who served as pastor of the first Baptist Church here at one time, is holding a revival meeting in western Texas for the next week.
  • Emmet Harvey Nichols and Xie Elizabeth Turner appeared in the US federal census of 1 April 1940 in Kerrville, Kerr County, Texas, at 204 Travis Street. Also in the household was daughter Alice Nell (age 17).
  • The following appeared on 2 April 1942 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mrs. Lewis Fisher and daughter, Mary Elizabeth, have returned to their home in Floresville after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols.
  • Emmet Harvey Nichols registered for the draft on 27 April 1942 in Texas while living with his wife at 204 Travis in Kerville, and employed there at the courthouse as tax assessor and collector.
  • The following appeared on 28 May 1942 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Fisher, who have been living in Floresville where Mr. Fisher was a member of the faculty of the public schools, are here for a visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher, and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols. They will leave later for Austin where Mr. Fisher will attend the summer sessions at the University.
  • The following appeared on 30 July 1942 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols who celebrated their silver wedding anniversary last Saturday, were honored with an informal open House in their home on Travis Street when their daughters, Miss Alice Nell Nichols and Mrs. Lewis Fisher, were hostesses.
         A profusion of summer flowers adorned the living and dining rooms for the occasion, and formed the centerpiece for the tea table. Mrs. Frank Fisher and Miss Dora Lacy assisted the young hostesses in serving punch and cake to the guests.
         Mr. and Mrs. Nichols were married in Kerrville at the Baptist parsonage, with Rev. J. D. Riddle officiating. They had "eloped" and after the wedding went to Comfort, where the young groom worked in the tailor shop in the day time and worked in the telephone office at night. His bride was Exie Turner, who made her home with her grandfather, the late W. S. Jennings, after the death of her father, F. M. Turner. The Turners came to Kerr County and lived on the Coleman Ranch, which is now a part of the Seagraves Ranch. After his health failed he moved to Kerrville and was in the real estate business until his death. mrs. Turner also made her home with her father during his lifetime, and still resides with her sister, Mrs. Daisy Jennings.
         Mrs. Nichols was employed at the telephone company, where Miss Jennings was the chief operator, at the time of her marriage. The young couple lived in Comfort for about ayear, leaving there to go to San Antonio. In about three years time they returned to Kerr County, and for the past eight years mr. Nichols has been tax assessor and collector. They have two children, the daughters who enterteined for their parents.
         About 65 guests called during the evening and the honorees received a number of pieces of silver in recognition of the occasion.
  • The following appeared on 11 March 1943 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Lewis Fisher of Floresville was in Kerrville last week end for a visit with his mother, Mrs. Frank Fisher. He was accompanied home by his wife and baby, Beth, who had spent the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols, and with Mrs. Fisher.
  • The following appeared on 29 April 1943 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Fisher and daughter of Floresville spent the week end in Kerrville with their parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols.
  • She officially witnessed the death of Martha Elizabeth Jennings on 19 July 1946 at Peterson Addition in Kerrville, Kerr County, Texas.
  • The following appeared on 25 July 1946 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Smith Chapel for Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Turner, 75, who died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. P. Lacey in Peterson Heights. Rev. Vernon Shaw, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and Rev. A. J. Carson, a Baptist minister, officiated and interment was in Nichols Cemetery. [:CR;]      Mrs. Turner was a native of Erath County, and had made her home in Kerr County for almost 50 years. After the death of her husband, F. M. Turner, which occurred about 35 years ago, she made her home with her father, the late W. S. Jennings, and her sister, Miss Daisy Jennings. [:CR;]      After her health had begun to fail she resided with her daughters, Mrs. E. H. Nichols, and Mrs. Lacey, who cared for her during her illness. [:CR;]      The survivors are four children, Mrs. Nichols, and Mrs Lac[e]y of Kerrville; H. M. Turner, Houston; and T. A. Turner, San Antonio; two sisters, Miss Jennings and Mrs. Otto Kittel, Kerrville, and one brother, W. H. Jennings of Pascagoula, Miss. There are seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. [:CR;]      The pallbearers were A. B. Burton, Roland V. Nichols, Carl A. Morriss, E. B. Henry, J. A. Meredith and Frank Fisher.

  • The following appeared on 1 July 1948 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fisher of Austin have announced the birth of a son, Jack Sterling, who was born June 28. The young man is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols of this city.
  • The following appeared on 3 April 1952 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Fisher and children returned to their home in Kingsville Sunday after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols. Dr. Fisher, who is a member of the faculty of the A&I College in Kingsville, had been to Austin to attend an educational meeting.
  • The following appeared on 25 December 1958 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Dr. and Mrs. Louis Fisher and children of Kingsville will spend the Christmas season with their parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols. Other guests in the fisher home will be Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher Jr., of Pasadena, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Algood and children of Hillsboro, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fisher of Beaumont, who will also visit with Mrs. J. G. Woodard.
  • The following appeared on 26 November 1959 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Fisher and family of Kingsville and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher Jr., and children of Pasadena will be here Thursday for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher. Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Fisher will visit Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols.
  • The following appeared on 5 May 1960 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mrs. Frank Fisher and Mrs. E. H. Nichols spent the week end with their children, Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Fisher in Kingsville. They went to entertain with a party in honor of their granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Fisher, who is graduating from the Kingsville High School.
  • The following appeared on 28 September 1961 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mrs. John Nichols, who observed her 90th birthday anniversary in her home on the Harper Road was given a surprise party by a group of intimate friends. Mrs. A. Meadows, assisted by Mrs. E. C. Pritchett, was the hostess.
         Guests included Mrs. J. W. Blair, Miss Daisy Jennings, Mrs. J. P. Lacey, Mrs. Lloyd Raiford, and Mrs. E. H. Nichols.
         She was again honored Sunday when her children attended a family dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols. Presnet were Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Nichols and Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Richardson and daughter of San Antonio; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Holland, Rocksprings; Mrs. Nettie Schroeder, Kenedy; Mrs. Grace Mohn and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols.
         Mrs. Nichols was born in Clear Lake, Cal., and came to Texas in 1881 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. W. Ingram, and located at the present site of Ingram, which was named for the family.
  • The following appeared on 14 February 1962 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Dr. and Mrs. Lewis R. Fisher of Kingsville announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, to Warner Duane Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Powell of Carrizo Springs. The couple will be married June 2 at the First Baptist Church in Kingsville.
         The bride-elect is a graduate of Henrietta M. King High School, attended Texas College of Arts and Industries in Kingsville, and is now attending the University of Texas. Her fiance was graduated from Carrizo High School and Texas College of Arts and Industries. He is a teacher in Carrizo Springs Junior High School.
         The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Nichols of this city.
  • The following appeared on 26 July 1967 in the Kerrville Mountain Sun: Mr. and Mrs. Emmett H. Nichols observed their golden wedding anniversary Sunday in their home on the Harper road. Their two childen, Mrs. Lewis Fisher of Kingsville and Mrs. Ralph Valentine of Salem, Oregon were here to assist with the happy occasion.
         The couple was married in the Baptist parsonage with the pastor, Rev. J. D. Riddle officiating. The groom was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Nichols and was born at the family home on Goat Creek. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Turner, was born in Comanche County, and moved to Kerrville when she was four years old.
         They both attended the schools in Kerrville and he taught for a time, and later became the County Tax Assessor and Collector, having retired from the ofice a few years ago. They have been devout members of the Trinity Baptist Church. She has been in failing health for the last several months, and due to this the celebration was held in the home with only the immediate members of the family in attendance.
         Mrs. Nichols has one sister, Mrs. Claudia Lacey of Itasca and two brothers, Tom A. Turner of San Antonio and Henry Turner of Houston. Mr. Nichols has two brothers, Rufus and Wesley Nichols of Kerrville and three sisters, Mrs. Gerald Richardson, San Antonio; Mrs. Meta Schroeder of Kenedy and Mrs. Preston Holliman of Oregon.
  • She officially witnessed the death of Emmet Harvey Nichols on 1 January 1970 at Colonial Nursing Home in Kerrville, Kerr County, Texas.
