  • The following appeared on 24 May 1947 in a local newspaper: W. F. Johnson, 78-year-old retired grocery merchant, died at 1:20 Saturday afternoon after an illness of several weeks.
         Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Fletcher S. Crowe, pastor, officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. W. H. Colson and Rev. Irwin Johnson.
         Pallbearers will be Tom Roberson, Arch Hayes, R. D. McBride, Fred Mitchell, Joe gibson and Percy Merrick. Burial will be in the Childress Cemetery by Newberry Funeral Home.
         William Franklin Johnson was born in Maxwell, Ark., October 13, 1868, and moved to Childress in 1901. He farmed until 1914 and moved into town and went into the grocery business. He retired from the grocery business in 1938.
         Survivors include his widow, two sons, Whitt and Vernon Johnson, both of childress; five daughters, Mrs. B. J. Teague, Mrs. Viola Johnson, and Miss Bertha Johnson, all of childress; Mrs. Paul O'Neal of wilmington, Del., and Mrs. E. J. Campbell of Waco; nne grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
  • Annie Alzada Martin became a widow at his death.
  • He was interred at Childress Cemetery, Childress, Childress County, Texas.
