  • The following appeared on 9 April 1959 in The Daily Oklahoman: Mrs. Susie Viola Newsom, 81, of 802 N Meuller, Bethany, died Wednesday in Deaconess hospital. Services will be announced by Merritt funeral home.
         A native of Carrollton, Mo., she pioneered in this state with her husband, whom she married at Perry shortly after statehood.
         She and her husband settled in Tillman county. He died in 1928. She moved to Bethany in 1941, living a daughter.
         She was a member of the Nazarene church.
         Survivors include seven sons, Ray, Frederick; Sylvan, Clovis, N. M; Lee, Bartlesville; Clyde, Portland, Ore.: Rev. Oliver, Wichita Falls, Texas; Rev. Reuben, Portland, Ore., and Glen, Duncan.
         She is also survived by five daughters, Mrs. Opal Huffman, Lawton; Mrs. Meyrl Haney, Mrs. Grace Eppler, both of Bethany; Mrs. Faye Poole, Austin, Texas, and Mrs. Gladys Waldroop, Bethany; 32 grandchildren, and four great grand-children.
         Another son was killed in action during World war II.
