  • The following appeared on 9 April 1959 in The Daily Oklahoman: Mrs. Susie Viola Newsom, 81, of 802 N Meuller, Bethany, died Wednesday in Deaconess hospital. Services will be announced by Merritt funeral home.
         A native of Carrollton, Mo., she pioneered in this state with her husband, whom she married at Perry shortly after statehood.
         She and her husband settled in Tillman county. He died in 1928. She moved to Bethany in 1941, living a daughter.
         She was a member of the Nazarene church.
         Survivors include seven sons, Ray, Frederick; Sylvan, Clovis, N. M; Lee, Bartlesville; Clyde, Portland, Ore.: Rev. Oliver, Wichita Falls, Texas; Rev. Reuben, Portland, Ore., and Glen, Duncan.
         She is also survived by five daughters, Mrs. Opal Huffman, Lawton; Mrs. Meyrl Haney, Mrs. Grace Eppler, both of Bethany; Mrs. Faye Poole, Austin, Texas, and Mrs. Gladys Waldroop, Bethany; 32 grandchildren, and four great grand-children.
         Another son was killed in action during World war II.
  • The following appeared on 7 March 1963 in The Oregonian: It isn't even safe to leave your automobile in your garage.
         Clyde Amos Newsom, 12011 SE Grant St. so reported to county police Tuesday night. The thief or thieves evidently had rolled the car out of the garage and down the driveway to the street before starting it.
         The 1959 cream and brown Ford coach had its keys in it and a full tank of gas, he said.
