  • He married Hazel C. Hollenbeck, daughter of James S. Hollenbeck and Catharine Stahle, on 1 September 1927 in Dysinger, Niagara County, New York.
  • The following appeared on 3 September 1927 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: (Dysinger) A very pretty wedding took place when Miss Hazel Hollenbeck of Royalton, was united in marriage to Alvin Sand, of Lockport, by Rev. C. Walton Jarvis on September 1st at 1 o'clock. The ceremony took place before a beautiful embankment of garden flowers in the home and same room that the bride's father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James S. Hollenbeck, were united in marriage 50 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hollenbeck were the attendants. The bride wore a gown of tan georgette. The guests present were Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Hollenbeck, the Misses Lorraine and Dorothy Sand, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hollenbeck, Miss Marjorie Hollenbeck, Carl Hollenbeck, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Behe, Miss Evelyn Behe and Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Hunt of Washington, D. C. After the ceremony a delicious wedding dinner was served. The color schemes were green and white with wedding bells for favors and hand painted place cards. After a motor trip through Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Sand will be at home September 23 at No. 2 Wilson Parkway, Lockport.
  • The following appeared on 26 August 1936 in the Lockport Union-Sun & Journal: The 34th annual reunion of the Hollenbeck family was held Saturday, Aug. 22 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Stagner on the Campbell Blvd. with about 80 in attendance. Dinner was served at 1 o'clock after which games and a social hour were enjoyed.
         In the absence of the president, Walter O. Shults, William Stagner presided over the business meeting and officers were elected as follows: President, Daniel Hollenbeck; vice president, Alvin W. Sand; secretary and treasurer, Florence V. Behe; historian, Marjorie Hollenbeck, with Mrs. Alvin Sand of Lockport, Mrs. Mary Pettit Harris of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Hazel Griffith of Prospect, O., assisting.
         The oldest member present was William Plarr of Buffalo, the youngest George Plarr, Jr. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Hunt of Buffalo. The next reunion will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hollenbeck.

  • The following appeared on 26 February 1948 in the Lockport Union-Sun & Journal: (Raymond Hill) Mr. and Mrs. Richard F. Rankie and family and Mr. and Mrs. Owen Confer were visitorsat the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Washington Sand, Sunday. They brought a brithday cake and ice cream in honor of their father on the occasion of his birthday, Feb. 22.

  • The following appeared on 2 March 1955 in the Lockport Union-Sun & Journal: A retired farmer, Alvin W. Sand, 75, died Tuesday afternoon following a long illness. Mr. Sand was born in the Town of Lockport, Feb. 22, 1880, son of Jacob and Margaret Goss Sand.
         Mr. Sand, who lived on Crosby Road, was a life long member of the Raymond Community Church and had served as a trustee for several years. He was noted for his hobby of woodworking.
         He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel C. Hollenbeck, two daughters, Mrs. Loraine Rankie and Mrs. Dorothy Confer, both of Lockport, one sister, Mrs. Floyd Bassett of North Chili, and four grandchildren.
         Services will be held at the Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Friday at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Everett Davis of Raymond Hill officiating. Burial will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.
