• Philipp Horneck was born on 16 February 1830 in Guntersblum, Rheinhessen.
• He married Catharina Hartmann, daughter of Jacob Hartmann and Anna Maria Diefenthaler, on 2 January 1854 in Rhine, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.
• Philipp Horneck and Catharina Hartmann appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Rhine, Wisconsin. Other members of the household included Frederick A. Horneck. Also in the household were children Fritz (age 5), Eva (4) and George (1).
• He was a farmer, according to the 1860 census.

Other members of the household included Frederick A. Horneck. Also in the household were children Frederick (age 16), Eva (14), George (11), Henry (9), Ida and Edward (both age 4), Julius (2) and Emma (1).

• The following appeared in the Plymouth Review: Philipp Horneck, a well known and respected pioneer resident of the town of Rhine, died Saturday, May 11, at his farm home in that township where he had resided over fifty years. The deceased who was 77 years of age was born In Guntersblum, Hesse Darmstadt, Ger., Feb. 16, 1830. He emigrated to America in 1848 and soon after purchased forty acres of land in Rhine where he has since lived. Jan. 1, 1854 he married Katherine Hartmann, and she together with twelve children and forty-six grandchildren survive him. The children are George, cheesemaker and Fred, blacksmith, at Rhine Center; Mrs. Peter Reineck and Henry, town of Rhine; Mrs. M. Boethke, Elkhart; Edward of Rockville; Julius at home; Mrs. Frank Rothe in the town of Herman; Mrs. Conrad Eckelmann, Rhine; Robert and Arthur, Elkhart and Mrs. Henry Klein, Sheboygan. Mr. Horneck was one of the oldest members of the Odd Fellows in the vicinity in which he lived, having joined as a charter member when a lodge was formed at Franklin, forty years or more ago. After the lodge was discontinued, he joined the Kiel lodge and the funeral was under their charge. He made all arrangement for his funeral, selecting six of his grandsons for pall bearers and requesting that there be no flowers at his funeral, but that the Kiel Arion band play. Wm. Guetzloe of Kiel conducted the funeral which was held Tuesday afternoon, and interment was in the cemetery near the Eckelmann home in Rhine.
• The following appeared on 20 June 1922 in the Sheboygan Press-Telegram: Funeral services for the late Mrs. Katherine Horneck, nee Hartman, who died at the home of her son, Julius, in the town of Rhine on Sunday, will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in Eckleman cemetery in the town of Rhine with Rev. Thomas of the Rhine church officiating.
       Mrs. Horneck's death came after but a days illness. She was active and in good health up to the day preceding her death and reached the ripe old age of 86 years, 11 months and 12 days.
       Mrs. Horneck was born July 6, 1835, in Bebelheim Hessen Darmstate, Germany. She came to the town of Rhine at the age of 13 years and was united in marriage to Philip Horneck, January 1, 1854, who died on May 11, 1907.
       When Mr. and Mrs. Horneck settled in the town of Rhine it was but a wilderness. They cleared the land and with a large family growing up enjoyed the fruits of their toils and went through many a hardship in their earlier days, never discouraged, but always in good spirits and kindest of feeling towards all who came in contact with them; and were so endeared to the people of the town of Rhine that their advice was often sought in private as well as in many other matters that came up in then the pioneer days.
       The survivors are 11 children, 54 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. The children are: Fred Horneck, Plymouth; Mrs. Peter Reineck, Town Rhine; George Horneck, Elkhart Lake; Henry Horneck, Town Rhine, Mrs. Martin Bethke, Elkhart Lake; Edward Horneck, Kiel; Julius Horneck, Mrs. Frank Rothe and Mrs. Con Ecklemann, Town Rhine; Robert Horneck, Elkhart Lake; and Mrs. Henry Klein, town Meeme. One son, Arthur Horneck, of Elkhart, died in December, 1917.
