  • The following appeared on 4 December 1946 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Albert John Hoffman, 80, of 2902 Lockport road, a retired building contractor, a member of a pioneer Niagarra county family and for many years of the Hoffman house, Lockport road and Hyde Park boulevard, died yesterday at his home after a long illness.
         Born in Porter Center, Mr. Hoffman came to Niagara Falls 65 years ago and spent the remainder of his life here. He retired several years ago.
         Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Kammerer Hoffman; four children, John K. Hoffman and Mrs. Norma Bouvy, both of this city; Mrs. Dorothy Stroger, Kenmore, and Mrs. Catherine Turner, of Portland, Ore; two brothers, Milton F. Hoffman, of this city, and Henry J. Hoffman, Plainfield, N. J., and one sister Mrs. Lillian Reiger, this city. Ten grandchildren also survive.
         Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:30 a. m. at the home and at 9 o'clock at Sacred Heart church with interment in Gate of Heaven cemetery.

  • The following appeared on 29 May 1952 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Milton F. Hoffman, 83, of Saunders Settlement road, Lewiston, well-known retired farmer and a descendant of one of Niagara county's pioneer families, died late last night in Lockport after a two-year illness.
         The Niagara River Lodge 785, F and AM, of which Mr. Hoffman was one of the oldest members, will conduct memorial services at 7:30 p.m. tomorow at the Gridley Funeral home. Funeral services for Mr. Hoffman will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the Rev. David H. Weeks, D. D., rector of the Epiphany Episcopal church officiating.
         Mr. Hoffman was born in the Town of Porter, the son of Herny and Catharine Hoffman, early settlers in that area. During the early days of this city's industrial expansion, Mr. Hoffman worked as an excavating contractor her.
         He was a member of the Niagara Falls Exempt Fireman's association, the Niagara commandery, Ismalia temple and Niagara Falls Lodge 81, IOOF.
         Surviving are his wife, Laura M. Hoffman; two daughters, Mrs. Laura H. Ressle, New Orleans, and Mrs. Lillian G. Strong, this city; three sons, Frank M., Karl W. and Lloyd E. Hoffman, all this city; a sister, Mrs. Lily Rieger, this city; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
         Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery.
  • The following appeared on 8 September 1953 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Funeral services will be held Thursday for Mrs. Laura M. Hoffman, who died today at the Crothers Nursing Home, Lockport, after a long illness. She was 81 years old.
         Mrs. Hoffman was the wife of the late Milton F. Hoffman, a well known farmer in Niagara County. For many years they resided on the family farm in Saunders Settlement road in Lewiston. Mrs. Hoffman was born at Alton, Ont., and has resided in this locality 61 years.
         She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Laura H. Ressel, New Orleans, La; three sons, Frank M. Hoffman, Karl W. Hoffman and Lloyd E. Hoffman; another daughter, Mrs. Lillian G. Strong, all of this city; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
         Funeral services will be held at the Gridley Funeral Home, Thursday at 10:30 a. m. The Rev. Willard C. Billica will officiate. Interment will be in Riverdale Cemetery.
         Mrs. Hoffman was a member of the Niagara Frontier Chapter OES, No. 582 and Riverdale Rebekah Lodge, No. 195.
