  • The following appeared on 24 May 1925 in the Buffalo Courier: Charles H. Leavens, sixty-one years old, former head of the Leavens Baking Co., ended his life yesterday by cutting his throat with a razor in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harold Baruer, No. 144 Palmer avenue, Kenmore. Medical Examiner Earl G. Danser, who issued a certificate of suicide, said the man had been suffering from melancholia.
         Mrs. Brauer's eight-year-old son, Harry, found his grandfather dead in the cellar. He called his mother. Leavens had been dead only a short time when the woman reached his side.
         Mr. Leavens is survived by his widow and only daughter, Mrs. Brauer. Until a few days ago the former bakery head and his wife had been living at a local hotel, taking up residence with Mrs. Brauer prior to moving back to their home on Hoyt street.
